Former astronaut Julie Payette will be the Queen's new representative in Canada, CBC News has confirmed.

tx_cronopio I realize that as an American, I currently have no right to question anyone else's government, but why do you need a Queen's representative? I mean, I know, Commonwealth and all that, but what does this person actually do, and why should she have any say at all about Canadian issues? Is it just a protocol thing, and if so, aren't people annoyed that someone is getting paid for basically just showing up at dinners?
