Say, does this mean MR was one of the people who voted the VD ticket?

You beat me to that particular bit of speculation, but I'm guessing yes, yes he was.

No, it means that my dad's google-alert picked up my name being dragged through the sewage of Beale's blog in relation to the flamewar surrounding him. My dad has emphatically not wanted this to affect his family or friends, and he posted to respond to the criticisms of -me- on Beale's site.

Laura Resnick

I'm calling DOUBLE SHENANIGANS: this alleged email is fake and VD is shitstirring.

VD is a malignant troll, and I'm pretty sure he basically hates SFWA and wants it to die in a fire because it failed to elect him President by a humiliating margin. Shit-stirring is de rigeur.

I am less convinced that he'd fake up email from an actual named individual with a public reputation (as opposed to doing the usual "the lurkers support me in email" fan dance).

On the other hand, I've only met Resnick the once and he did not make a good impression. That email is about as un-self-aware as I would have expected of him. More fool him, for sending VD a private email and expecting VD to do the decent thing and not use it as a stick to beat every target in sight with.

Here's an exchange between Beale and Laura Resnick

I don't think Mike Resnick is a close friend of Beale's, or for that matter, would even give him the time of day.

That thread mostly tells me that Scalzi has WAY too much free time on his hands. Rampant troll-feeding.

Re: For the record

I've made my opinion of Scalzi's fault in all of this pretty clear.

Re: For the record

There was no exchange. God, you think I'd INTERACT with that guy?

I was unaware there was an immediate and lengthy pile-on in the comments section after I posted that comment on Whatever. I heard about the incident weeks later, when Scalzi briefly mentioned it over dinner at WorldCon.

The first time I ever learned of Beale's existence was months after that, in January or February, when he ran for SFWA pres. Since then, I have been nostalgic about the halcyon era when I was unaware he existed.

Just a note: due to an ongoing problem with spam I have to unscreen every anonymous comment by hand. You replied while I was offline, thus the delay in unscreening.

Re: For the record

No, people were speculating about your *father* interacting with him.

I'm not going to comment on that because you've got a stated policy on not talking about this issue where your father is involved, and I respect that.

For the first time in a long time, I'm actually going to say that I have zero desire to hit that link. MPRs are usually entertaining to my cynical self, but anything VD has to say really does go in one ear and out the alimentary canal, unprocessed.

I second that notion. None of the Theodore Beale quotes I've stumbled across have given me any desire to go looking for them on purpose. The closest I've come to it was when I heard somebody had bestowed a vile nickname on Scalzi and I googled to find out who it was so I could better avoid them.

I shall run out and buy a pink shirt tomorrow.

Preferably with a rabbit embroidered on it.

Is there a significance to the rabbit? I don't pay much attention to Beale, so I don't know if rabbits have a snarky meaning towards him.

Of course, maybe you just like rabbits, which is cool too.

Why are you continuing to read things having to do with Vox Day/Beale? Is it some deep-rooted masochism on your part?

More importantly, why is he linking them here for us, in a temporary lapse of judgement or sanity, to click on?

Erk. Clicked through before I noticed the tag.

Pinkshirts? Really? They're still pretending that "free speech" doesn't include the right of others to criticize the crap that they spew?

Oh hey, look, Lou Antonelli is a Vox Day fanboy. Welp. All sorts of things are making sense now.

Article started out ripcorded.

More like, it's a suicide mission to enter his website's airspace.

Has anything official happened with the 'kick this dude out of SFWA' push?
