That episode of Bonaza where the boys help Albert Michelson on his way to physics fame!

That would be this Albert Michelson, half of the Michelson-Morley experiment brain trust.

Hat tip to Gary Farber.

And of course the wikipedia page for Michelson has a whole paragraph on this episode in the "In Popular Culture" section.

Which reminds me of this xkcd.

Skimming through the Youtube version, the episode, Look to the Stars," seems to have quite a bit of physics in it. Tons, by the standards of Sixties TV drama.

And yup, young A. A. Michelson really did live in Virginia City, Nevada for a while. I don't suppose the episode covers his epic ice cream battle. Too bad.

You may have given me a reason other than the only reason I could previously imagine, namely abject and utter boredom, to watch a Bonanza episode.

I'm slightly disappointed that his Wikipedia page suggests he was actually in Virginia City only when younger, living in San Fransisco a few years later. But this would place the episode as occurring in 1869, which fits the claimed Bonanza era.
