Boris Strugatsky (1933 - 2012)

Russian writer Boris Strugatsky, famous for co-authoring Soviet-era science-fiction novels critical of the authorities with his late brother Arkady, passed away on Monday at 79, his foundation said.

Oh, shit. Their books are the reason I read SFF today.

What I liked best about the Strugatsky brother's writing was that their dystopian worlds were never without hope and humor. Monday Begins on Saturday was a brilliant satire as well as inventive in how it conflated science and Russian myths. RIP, Boris.
