Playing Kerbal Space Program has given me a hell of a lot more appreciation for how bloody difficult it is to land on the moon. I mean, you think you're doing well, coming in nice and soft, then OH GOD OH GOD THE GROUND'S COMING UP TOO FAST and you smash into the regolith at 60 meters per second. Or you picked some inclined ground and the lander tips over.

It's good to be reminded of this.

What I remember well is July 20, 1976:

The networks cut into Captain Kangaroo, which displeased my sister greatly.

Hah! I had a similar reaction, only it was a Gemini shot that interfered with my Captain Kangaroo fix.

I was in Thompson. I didn't know it was going on till it was over.

I was almost five years old. I do not recall this at all.

(I have a memory of a memory of being called downstairs to watch Nixon resigning on TV because we'd never see something like this again even though it was a little past my bedtime. I do not know how much of this is factual.)
