A "moonshine-type liqueur"? That sounds like having a "apple-type orange".... And googling it yields the truth - it's not 'shine because it's too low a proof and it's flavored. It's just trading on the mystique of 'shine. Kinda like selling the McRib as "authentic barbeque".

My brother-out-law's father makes a moonshine-type liqueur. He distills the mash illegally himself, then dilutes it a bit, and adds sugar and spices. I've never had the stuff, but it apparently tastes like apple pie.

Somewhere around here I've got a recipe for that... only we just buy vodka or rum.

There's a local brew that is moonshine with spices, and one of the variants is apple pie. It is absolutely delish with ginger ale (I had it called 'apple ale' at a restaurant once, and asked for the recipe - now I make it at home/parties :) )

Hey now - it's tasty and goes very nicely with ginger ale :)
