I am startled for the wrong reason: because I did not know the game was that recent.

I did not know the game was that old.

First time I heard of Settlers of Catan about a year ago.

I expect some of this fall's crop will be younger than Settlers, and most of next fall's. 1995, right? (If only I were connected to some sort of world-spanning web of information... yeah, 1995.)

Sheesh. My go-to "that was a long time ago" moment has been "college freshmen have never known life without The Simpsons" for ages... but now that's just sort of accepted as background noise.

How long before "they have never known a world without hand held smart phones with cameras, gps, mapping, and live Internet?

If you're willing to give them a few years of toddlerhood of "not really being able to comprehend or remember anything about the world", then I'd say four or five years from now?

People born in september of 1993 are in their second or third year of university and have probably never known a world without mobile phones and access to the internet.
