So... addictive

OK, the timing on this is a little different than I would have expected:

I would have expected the long lack of new Brin or Benford novels to have an impact earlier than it did.

The relative fame does my heart good to see, as does the fact that SM Stirling's fame may be starting to wane.

THE LIEBERAL SOCIALIST COMMUNIST LESBIAN KENYAN ABORTIONIST TELEPROMPTER CONSPIRACY RESPONDS:

Why are you showing a 0% flatline when I know the phrase in my query occurred in at least one book?

We only consider ngrams that occur in at least 40 books. Otherwise the dataset would balloon in size and we wouldn't be able to offer them all.

Does Google distinguish between "SM", "S.M." and "S. M." without being told?

Actually, I think I was just misreading the x axis.

You are the Ngram Kid, my friend.

But what about frozen yogurt? That was a thing, once.

You are the Ngram Kid, my friend.

[In hurt tone] I thought I was the Ngram Kid. I used to be the Ngram Kid.

Maybe you got promoted to Ngram god?

Thank you for that comforting thought.

I have just learned that I appear to have worshippers in distant climes, chanting in strange tongues.

Mentally translating those links with hesitant broken Spanish, and then clicking through to see the actual search results, was occasionally entertaining.

"Declaration of the mission" sounds much better than "mission statement." More adventurous.

Gregory Benford may get a boost from his career as science pundit and go-to man for accessible quotes for popular science writing?

Brin got a huge amount of quasi-fame from his Star Wars essay during the time the Prequels were coming out.
