Challenge:

1) Find out the song that was #1 the week you were born.
2) Find that song on YouTube.
3) Post that video on your wall without shame.

I think this it for me:

No! I loath Please release Me!

Knock Three times by Tony Orlando and Dawn. That's...not impressive.

I got Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson", which is, amazingly, actually a good song.

I guess I lucked out... "All I Have To Do Is Dream" is sandwiched between "Witch Doctor" and "Purple People Eater" in 1958.

"Who's Sorry Now" was the number one in the U.K.

Hah! "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan. No wonder I latched onto to DC early.

"St George and the Dragonet" - the St George legend retold dragnet style.

"This is the countryside. My name is Saint George. I'm a knight".

...

"On Sept 5 the dragon was tried and convicted, his fire was put out and his maiden-devouring license revoked. Maiden-devouring out of season is punished by a term of not less than 50 or more than 300 years."

Could be worse. I was really expecting much worse.

Ha. You are almost as old as I am.

Mine is Venus by Frankie Avalon.

"Sincerely" by The McGuire Sisters.

"Quarter to Three" Gary U.S. Bonds. could be worse.

jackson 5, the love you save.

For the UK charts, "in the summertime" by Mungo Jerry.

I don't know that I have ever heard either of these songs.

Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog. 1956 was the year of Elvis, alas

Hmmm. Chapel of Love by the Dixie Cups. Got some nice harmonies, at least.

Is that from the American or Canadian list? (Is there a Canadian list online somewhere?)

(For me, it's Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree, so No.)

Vera Lynn - Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart. On YouTube, from the original 78 rpm recording.

Jeezopete, I'm old.

My song is horrible WAIT, where is Carlos blogging at? Is it secret? Because if it's not secret, I'd love to know.

Mine is "Maggie May," yuck blech patooie. A month later and it would have been the theme from "Shaft," dammit.

Waaaait wait wait, there are some #1 songs that are NOT on the usual "top song on your birthday" lists found on Le Interhole. The first 1971 list I found didn't have "Uncle Albert," for example, just skipped right over it. Anyone who's concerned about these things should hop over to Wikipedia and check out the Hot 100 list for your year.

If I'd been born a year earlier (which I have suspected since I was a kid, given that mom looks pretty dang pregnant in her wedding pic) the top song would have been "Cracklin' Rosie." Oh man.
