Unwanted association theatre!
Because of a childhood that involved a lot of folks songs, Scottish and otherwise, I cannot look
at a collection of four notable and doomed objects without thinking of this song.As with most people who who aren't
peculiar, it was the custom in my family to name notable objects on the farm for ease of orientation. There was a stand of elm trees at the west side of the farm and since one was ailing, calling them the Four Marys was an obvious choice. Later they became the three Marys and still later they became firewood.
