*nod* A friend suggested that his works should be looked at more as treatments than novels. Thus, they would be similar to Michael Crichton's. The terrible dialogue, detailed scene descriptions, Mary Sue elements and tired recycled plots might translate well to the screen, but they'll have to clean up the rape and pedophilic elements if they want to avoid offending everyone.

Word. Easiest hack and slash job ever: just cut out all the creepy and unnecessary extended sex/torture scenes and voila, half the novel's gone!
Also: if the adaptation keeps the storyline about the hero's brother or cousin or whatever making fire illegal, I'm turning it off. Which will save me a lot of time, as I recall that that's about the first thing that happens in the story.
(I swear, I will never get over that. Making FIRE ILLEGAL. In a pre-industrial society. Fire! Illegal! Seriously. Seriously?)
